Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

Prompt Response:   My most unforgettable meal was last Thanksgiving at my cousin's house. The food wasnt fancy like others, but it felt special because everyone was actually there together for once. We were all crowded; we didn't even fit at the table, but we were laughing, talking, and trying to grab food. I remember the smell of the turkey and the mashed potatoes. The food isn't what made it unforgettable; it was the feeling of being around everyone. Summary: Today in class, we worked in our groups to figure out the answers to a test. Reflection:  I was happy today because it was the last day before Thanksgiving break.

As Celie’s world expands in these letters, she begins noticing new things about the people in her life. Write about a moment when you suddenly noticed something funny, shocking, or unexpected about someone you see every day (a family member, a classmate, or even a teacher). How did that new discovery change the way you saw them?

Prompt Response:  I always thought my friend was an organized person, but one day I saw the inside of her bookbag, and it was a total disaster. It shocked me because they were always such an organized person and cleaned a lot . After that, I realized nobody is perfect, and it actually made me feel more comfortable around them. Summary: Today in class, we worked on our writeable and answered the questions. Reflection:  Today was a great day

These letters show how Celie learns from the people around her, even in small ways. Think of someone in your life who influences you in a positive, everyday way—a friend, relative, teacher, or teammate. Write about what you’ve learned from them and how their influence shows up in your daily life.

Prompt Response:  My JROTC instructors influence me in small but important ways every day. They've taught me discipline, responsibility, and how to carry myself with confidence. Their example shows me what real leadership looks like . Because of them, I try harder, stay organized, and push myself to be better in everything I do. Summary: Today, we read more of the book The Color Purple and started using Writeable. Reflection: Today was a good and easy day.

Creating a video is more than just placing pictures together—it’s about capturing a feeling. Explain how you tried to bring your assigned letter to life in your Adobe Express video. What mood were you aiming for, and how did your editing choices help you communicate the message or emotion of the letter?

Prompt Response:  In my Adobe Express video for letter 5 of The Color Purple, I focused on capturing the heavy and fearful mood Celie feels. I chose dark and sad images to reflect her sense, and steady pacing helped emphasize the emotional weight of her situation. The song I used was a sad sound because the tone was sad and emotional. Together, these editing choices helped communicate the sadness and tension of the letter. Summary: Today in class, we watched our classmates' video project and presented. Reflection:  I love how everyone communicated their letter through the video project.

At the end of Letter 21, Celie and Sofia share a rare moment of laughter that softens the tension between them. Write about a time when you and a sibling or family member shared an unexpected moment of joy after things had been tense or confusing. Explain how that moment helped bring you closer.

Prompt Response:   There was a time when things felt tense between me and a family member because we kept misunderstanding each other. One day, we both ended up laughing at something small and unexpected, and it completely broke the tension. In that moment, it felt like all the anger and confusion finally melted away. The laughter reminded us how much we cared about each other. It brought us closer and helped us start talking again with more kindness and understanding. Summary: Today in class, we kept working on our project on Adobe. Reflection:  Making the video on Adobe is very fun and a way to show how I understand the book.

Letters 11–16 show how relationships can be full of misunderstanding and pressure. Harpo wants love, but he also wants power. Sofia wants freedom, not control. Reflect on a time when someone’s desire for control hurt a friendship or relationship. What advice would you give to Harpo or Sofia if you could?

Prompt Response:   A time when someone's need for control hurt a relationship was when a friend tried to decide everything for me, like who I could talk to or walk with. It made the friendship feel stressful instead of a good, supportive one. If I could give Harpo advice, is that love isn't something you force; it's something you respect. I'd tell Sofia to keep standing up for her freedom, but also explain her feelings calmly so Harpo can understand her better. Summary: Today in class, we kept on reading the book. Reflection:   I love how the book can make others feel heard or how others can relate to it at one point of their life.

Celie tells Harpo to “beat” Sofia because she believes that’s how men control women, but this advice causes pain and conflict. Think about a time when someone gave you advice that sounded right at first but ended up being wrong. How did it affect your situation or relationships? What lesson did you learn about thinking for yourself?

Prompt Response:  Someone once told me to just ignore a problem we were having instead of talking things out. At first, it sounded easy, but it just made the issue worse and grow, and pushed me and the person apart even more. The silence made things awkward and confused. I learn that avoiding problems doesn't fix them. Now I know it's important to think for myself and speak up when I feel a way or something matters. Summary: Today in class, we kept on reading the book and started to work on our project on Adobe.  Reflection:  I started to love the book more and more each day we keep on reading.

In letters 6 -10, we see how Celie starts noticing the strength of people around her, like Shug Avery’s independence and confidence. Think about someone in your life who inspires you to be stronger or more confident. What qualities do they have that you admire and try to learn from?

Prompt Response:  Someone who inspires me to be stronger is my JROTC sargents because they stay confident even in the hardest and stressful situations.I admire how they speak up for themselves and don't let fear control them. Watching their strength makes me believe i can be more confident too. Summary:  Today in class, we kept on reading the book The Color Purple. Reflection:  The book is very interesting and makes me feel for her.

After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

Prompt Response:  After reading the first five letters, I felt a mix of sadness and admiration for Celie. Her voice was so real, like she was just trying to survive in a place where it was cruel to her. It's painful to hear what she has gone through, but at the same time, it stands out to me how strong she was. Summary: Today in class, we started reading ¨The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. Reflection:  The book was a surprising start.
