As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response:   As the first semester comes to an end, I can say that I really enjoyed this class because it helped me improve my writing skills while also letting me express my opinions in blog posts. The assignment I found most engaging was analyzing The Color Purple because it made me think deeply about the characters and their experiences. I connected most with writing and class discussions since they helped me better understand the texts and hear different perspectives. One area where I feel I need more support is writing longer responses with stronger evidence, and I hope to improve that skill during the spring semester. Summary: Today I wasn’t here. Reflection:  Today I enjoyed my winter break early.

Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Response:   One important tradition in my Hispanic family is getting together to make and share a big homemade meal during the holidays. Everyone helps cook dishes like tamales that have been passed down through our family and we spend time together. This tradition still matters because it keeps our culture alive and brings our family closer, even as we get older and busier. Summary:  Today in class, we kept on watching the Color Purple movie while making comparisons with the book version. Reflection:  I understood better by watching the movie instead of the book.

How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt Response:   When I was a kid, the holidays felt fun and magical because I didn’t have any responsibilities and just enjoyed gifts and family time. Now that I’m older, the holidays feel less magical  and don’t really get excited for presents anymore but now I mostly focus on spending quality time with loved ones instead of just presents. Summary: Today in class, we started watching the Color Purple movie while making comparisons with the book version. Reflection:  The movie has been interesting & good so far.

Write about a song that brings back a specific memory.

Prompt Response:  A song that brings back a specific memory for me is shake it off. me and my uncle would always listen to this song and have fun while he was living with me.Since he is now in Mexico it’s a good memory I always thing about. Summary: Today in class, we read letters 81-85 and worked on questions on a worksheet. Reflection:  Today was a good day in class.

At the end of the novel, Celie reconnects with Nettie and forms more peaceful relationships with the people who once harmed her. Reflect on the theme of reconciliation. Have you ever restored a relationship, forgiven someone, or been forgiven in a way that changed you? How does the novel’s ending shape your understanding of forgiveness across different cultures or families?

Prompt Response:   At the end of The Color Purple, reconciliation shows how forgiveness helps Celie heal and move on. Reuniting with Nettie and forgiving others shows that people can change. I’ve seen how forgiving someone can make a relationship better. The ending shows forgiveness can look different in every family but still bring peace. Summary: Today in class, we worked in groups to complete a literature circle and read letters #86-90. Reflection:  I loved working and getting to know my other classmates.

Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt Response:   The best gift I received was a makeup vanity because I've always dreamed of having one for a long time. When I got a yes from my dad that he was gonna gift it to me, I was very happy, and I told all my friends, and I couldn't even go to sleep. Summary: Today in class, we read letters 76-81 in the book and worked on a worksheet. Reflection:  Today was a good day in class.

When Celie says, “The God I been praying and writing to is a man. And act just like all the other mens I know,” she expresses disappointment, betrayal, and disillusionment. Discuss a moment in your own life when something you believed in turned out to be different than what you imagined. How did this realization shape your identity or worldview?

Prompt Response:  When I was younger, I believed that friendships were supposed to last forever and that if someone was your friend, they would be loyal to you. As I got older, I experienced different situations where friends changed, grew distant, or even chose others over me. It hurt because it made me question what real friendship meant. That realization changed how I see people now. I learned that not everyone is meant to be in your life, and that's totally okay. It helped me value healthy, honest, and taught me to protect my peace. Summary: Today, we read to ourselves and make our own found poem. Reflection:  Today was a great and easy day.

Pretend you are writing a blog entry as Celie; the moment you uncover the hidden letters. Describe what you would think, say, and do, and how this discovery would reshape how you see Mister and yourself. Reflect on why this moment would matter so much and how it would change your next choices.

Prompt Response:  Today, I found the hidden letter, and my hands were shaking and trembling as I was reading it. I couldn't believe someone had been writing to me this whole time, and I was dumb not to know. I felt very hurt and angry at Mr.   for keeping them away from me, and it made me think nobody in my life cared for me anymore. Now I see him differently than I once used to. I don't just see him as someone I'm scared of, but as someone who lied to me right in my face at my lowest. This moment matters because it gave me the courage to change. From now on, I wasnt to make my own choices for myself. Summary: Today in class, we read letters 61-65 and made one critical question for each one and wrote the answers as well. Reflection: Today was a calm and easy day.

In Letters 46–50, Celie begins to see Albert more clearly—his flaws, his regrets, and the ways he changes when he is no longer in complete control of her. Their relationship slowly shifts from fear and dominance to honesty and distance. Write about a relationship in your life that changed over time as you grew older or more aware. What made the dynamic shift, and how did your understanding of that person evolve?

Prompt Response:  As I got older, I began to see someone close to me more clearly, including their flaws and struggles. Our relationship changed when I started setting boundaries and speaking up for myself, which helped me understand them in a more honest and realistic way. Summary:  Today in class, we read the book The Color Purple by ourselves again and completed a worksheet. Reflection:  Today was also another quiet class time.

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response:  Over the break, I was most thankful for spending time with my loved ones and having time to relax. It helped me feel grateful and refreshed. Summary: Today in class, we read the book The Color Purple by ourselves and completed a worksheet. Reflection:  Today was a quiet and chill day to be reading.
