Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:  Something that I believed as a kid is that life is easy, and it will always be like that. I believed that because I was just a kid, I was happy playing outside with friends and didn't have to worry about other stuff. Growing up, I realized I was very wrong and it was not close to true. Summary: Today in class, we worked on a poem worksheet and things we want to do in the future. Reflection:  I realized getting to my dream job takes time and takes many steps to get where i wanna be.

Fences Act 1 Scenes 2 and 3

Act 1, Scene 2: Rose shows how 1950s African American women were expected to prioritize the home and family first. She puts her own dreams aside so she can support Troy and keep her family all together. Her sense of duty makes her stay patient with Troy, but also puts herself aside for peace. This creates a relationship where she has to feel responsible for everyone else but herself. Act 1, Scene 3: Troy's talk with Cory shows how fathers can be strict on their sons so they can be prepared for the real hard world. His past with racism makes him believe that tough love is the only way to raise his son. Troy's idea of manhood is to be strong, hard-working, and provide for his own family, but Cory just wants freedom and support from his dad.

Troy’s complaint about the unfair job system shows his frustration with racial discrimination. How did this conversation make you think about fairness and opportunity in society today? If you were in Troy’s position, what would you do?

Prompt Response:  Troy's complaint made me realize that fairness and opportunities are still unequal to this day. Working hard is not always enough in the system. If I were in his position, I would speak up and try to reach my goal in some way while also pushing for a change in this society. Summary: Today in class, we kept on reading the book "Fences" and completed a worksheet. Reflection:  I love how the book is very forward and doesn't try to sugarcoat things.

Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response:  A truth I was afraid to accept is that not everyone will stay in my life, no matter how much I care for or known them. Summary:  Today in class, we started reading the book called "Fences". Reflection:  I liked how the book started off.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  There was one time at school when I was judged unfairly during a group project. My group thought I wasnt helping just because I was the quiet one, but I actually did a lot of the work at home. They assumed I didn't care, but the moment I showed my part, they realized I actually did the work well. It felt bad to be judged without them knowing the truth of what I was doing at home. Summary: Today in class, we worked on a common lit called "What makes good people do bad things?"  Reflection:  I learned while doing the common lit that a lot of people are peer pressured, that's why certain good people do bad things.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Reflection:   I learned that books could be important to differnt people on different levels.

After hearing your classmates’ storymap presentations, choose one classmate’s story that stood out to you. Write about what you liked or learned from their journey and explain why it was meaningful to you.

It was meaningful to me because I could relate to certain things. Summary: Today in class, we listened to every classmate present their presentation while rating the pictures & presentation. Reflection:  Today, I learned that everyone has a different story to tell.

Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

Prompt Response:  I used to think teachers only cared about grades and rules, and not about the actual students. That "single story" made me want to not ask for help from any of my teachers. But when one of my teachers noticed I was struggling really bad and took time to check in, I realized that they actually care about helping and my well-being. That completely changed how I viewed teachers and made me more open to building a connection with them. Summary: Today in class, we worked on a common lit called "The Danger of a Single Story" and answered the questions. Reflection:  Today, I learned that there is never a single story.

Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.

Prompt Response:  I remember a time in high school when someone I thought was my friend called me a slut in front of me and my friends. They said it was a joke, but to me it didn't feel funny. Later, I told them privately that the word offended me and wasnt funny to me. They apologized, and it made me realize how powerful words can be. Speaking up helped me feel better and taught me to be more careful with my own words. Summary: Today in class, we listed 3 words that offends us and read "Incident" by Countee Cullen. Consider Edna Pontellier’s decision to pursue love and desire beyond her marriage in The Awakening. To what extent do you think the pressures of gender role expectations excuse, or fail to excuse, her affair with another man?

Prompt Response:  Edna wants love and freedom because society expects women to only care for their husbands and love them at all times. Her affair shows that she is trying to follow her own path even though she is breaking society's rules. It doesn't completely excuse her affair either way because her actions also affect others. Summary: Today in class I read the story  Excerpts from "The Awakening" and "I don't Want A Wife". Reflection:  Today, I learned how society sees women and how women should act, but no matter what the society rules are, we shouldn't always have to follow them; we should be able to live how we want.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt Response:  I enjoy hands-on activities the most because I learn better when I can actively do something instead of sitting down and reading. Doing activities with my hands helps me understand the material we learn better. Summary: Today in class, we talked about the discussion questions from the worksheet "I Want A Wife". Reflection: Today I learned how other families divide their responsibilities.

Reflect on a specific gender expectation imposed by your culture that has been the most challenging to navigate. In 2-3 sentences, describe one clear example of this expectation and explain why it has been difficult for you. Ensure your response is concise, vivid, and focused on personal experience.
