Describe a meaningful family tradition unique to your culture and explain how it mirrors or contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations and roles in "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt response: One family tradition that my culture does is celebrating Christmas on the 24th and not the 25th of December. One of the reasons why that is, is because my family is catholic and we see it as the arrival of Jesus. His birth was celebrated on the 24th of December. Another tradition connected to that is, after any celebration, party, or gathering, we tend to come back the next day to eat leftovers, we call it "recalentado". I enjoy it because my whole family always says the food tastes better the next day. It contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations from "girl" because I feel like in girl it is more strict,t and if expectations aren't set, it can affect and disapprove of her culture. I'd like to say my culture is a little less strict and freer.

Summary: Today, we answered a prompt and answered how our traditions are similar or different.

Reflection: Today, I learned that any expectation can be placed on you, and sometimes it makes us into someone better. Never back down when an expectation wasn't fulfilled because everyone is different.
