Clothing is often tied to identity and culture. Describe an outfit or style you like that may not fit what others expect from you. How have people responded, and what does this reveal about stereotypes in society?

Prompt Response:   I like wearing tight shirts with baggy jeans. It’s a style that feels comfortable and looks good to me, but it’s not always what people expect. Some people think it looks “weird” or say it doesn’t match, while others think it’s cool and unique. People’s reactions show that society has certain expectations about how clothes should fit or go together.   Summary: Today in class we watched a short film and answered the discussion questions. Reflection:  Today was a calm quiet day,

What is the most exciting thing about graduating high school for you personally? In your response, explain what you are looking forward to most after graduation (college, career, independence, travel, etc.) and why it matters to you.

Prompt Response:  Whats the most exciting about graduating high school for me personally is new opportunities. After graduation I´m looking forward to going to college and becoming more independent.I want to meet new people, learn new things, and start building my future career. It matters to me because it feels like the start of new chapter where i can grow. Summary: Today in class we saw a TedTalk then answered questions about it. Reflection:  Today was a good day.

Think about a film that represents your culture (or a culture you identify with) in a positive and meaningful way. Explain how the film represents the culture and why this portrayal matters. Be sure to include specific examples from the film.

Prompt Response:  The movie Coco shows Mexican culture in a really positive and meaningful way.It focuses on traditions like Dia de los Muertos , which is about remembering and honoring family members who passed away.In the movie family is super important and you can see how Miguel connects with his ancestors in the after and now world. It also shows things like music, food, and celebration that are apart of the culture. This matters because it helps people understand Mexican culture better instead of relying on stereotypes and it shows how strong family connections are. Summary:  Today in class we worked on our project and talked with our group members. Reflection:  Today was wonderful day.

The short film Born With It shows how stereotypes can shape the way people see others and even how individuals see themselves. Reflect on the main character’s experience and explain how stereotypes impacted his identity and sense of belonging. Then, connect this to a broader idea: how can stereotypes influence the way a culture or group is understood by others? Use specific examples from the film to support your response.

Prompt Response:  Born with it, The main character gets judge a lot based on how he looks and it affects how people treat and see him.Because of that he starts to feel like he doesn't fit in with the rest of the people. It even makes him question who he is and makes him rethink his confidence.People expect him to act a certain way just because of stereotypes. This shows how stereotypes can mess with someones identity. Stereotypes make people think everyone in a group is the same which isnt fair. Summary: Today in class we watched a film called ¨Born with it¨ and answered the discussion questions. Reflection:  Today was an easy and interesting day in class.

Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

Prompt Response:   A show that changed how I see a city is Stranger Things . It shows a small town called Hawkins as quiet but also kind of creepy and full of secrets. It made me think small towns can have more going on than they seem. But it’s kind of a “single story” because it only shows the town in a dark, mysterious way and not normal everyday life. This could make people think everyone in small towns lives in boring or weird places which isn’t true. It can give a limited view of the people who live there. Summary: Today in class we got in our groups for our project and discussed the plan. Reflection:  Today was a great day.

Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

Prompt Response:   Film makers still use stereotypes because they’re easy and people already recognize them. It saves time since they don’t have to fully develop a character, and audiences understand right away. One reason we talked about in class is that stereotypes make movies simpler and more likely to make money, because they stick to what people expect. I don’t think that really justifies using them though.   Summary: Today in class we worked on missing assignments. Reflection:  Today was a good and easy day.

Hair can be a powerful way people express who they are and where they come from. Think about your own hair, your style, texture, or how you choose to wear it. How does your hair connect to your culture or your identity? Describe a moment when your hair made you feel proud, uncomfortable, or misunderstood, and explain why.

Prompt Response:   My hair is part of who I am because it shows my style and personality.Sometimes i wear it in a way that makes me feel confident like when i try a new look and people complement me.It also connects to my culture because certain styles can represent where I come from. One time I felt uncomfortable was when someone made a comment about my hair that didn't understand it and it made me feel misunderstood.Overtime i´ve learned to be proud of my hair because its a part of my identity. Summary: Today in class we watched videos on how hair can be a problem at school and the military. Then we watched a film and answered questions based off the film Reflection:  Today was an excellent day.

Think about the most stereotypical film you have ever seen. This could be a movie that represents a specific culture, race, gender, or group in an oversimplified or unrealistic way. In your response, explain what film you are referring to, what stereotypes were present in the film, and how those stereotypes shaped your understanding of that group at the time

Prompt Response:  A stereotypical movie i´ve seen is Mean Girls. It shows high school girls as very mean, obsessed with looks, and always being dramatic. This is a stereotype because not all girls act like that in real life. When I first watched it, it made me think high school would be full of drama and cliques. But later on i realized it exaggerated and not accurate for everyone. Summary: Today in class we started on an assignment on writable. Reflection:  Today in class was a quick and easy day.

If you could plan the perfect spring break with no limitation, money, time, or responsibilities—what would it look like? Where would you go, who would you bring, and what would you do?

Prompt Response:   My perfect spring break would be going to Japan with my close friends. We would explore cities like Tokyo and Kyoto, try different foods, visit temples, and experience the culture. I’d bring my best friends because it would be more fun to share the experience with people I’m close to. We would also take lots of pictures, try new things, and just enjoy our time. Summary: We didn’t have 4th today. Reflection:    Today was a quick and easy day.

Throughout your classmates' presentations, you were exposed to a variety of cultural foods and traditions. How did these presentations shape your understanding of different cultures? Share your opinion on what stood out most.

Prompt Response:   The presentations helped me see that different cultures use food in important ways, not just for eating but for traditions too. What stood out was how food brings people together, no matter the culture. Summary: Today in class everyone presented their presentation on their culture food. Reflection:  Today was a quick day and I got to learn about different culture foods.

Today, we explored how food connects to identity, culture, and belonging across the TED Talk, Fish Cheeks, and the Mississippi Delta film. How does food help individuals understand who they are, especially when they feel caught between cultures or judged by others? In your response, be sure to include at least one example from at least (TED Talk, Fish Cheeks, or the Mississippi Delta film) to support your thinking.

Prompt Response:   Food connects to identity because it shows where people come from and what their culture is. It can make people feel like they belong.  For example, in Fish Cheeks, Amy Tan feels embarrassed by her family’s Chinese food when guests come over. But later, she realizes that the food represents her culture and identity, and she learns to appreciate it instead of being ashamed. Summary: Today in class we read a short story called Fish Cheeks and watched two videos and then answered questions about them on writable. Reflection:  Today was a great day in class and learned new things.

Why is the choice to serve leftover Chinese food significant in “Lunch”? How could the author have made a more culturally meaningful choice for her grandmother? Use the text to support your answer. Then reflect on a time when you realized you could have done something more meaningful for someone else.

Prompt Response:   The leftover Chinese food is important because it shows the narrator doesn’t really respect her grandma’s culture. It kind of feels like she doesn’t think it matters that much. The author could’ve had her bring something homemade or traditional to show more respect. A  time I could’ve done better was when I didn’t really listen to someone talking to me. I should’ve paid more attention because it would’ve meant more to them. Summary: Today in class we a story called Lunch and answered questions about it. Reflection:  Today was a quick and easy day in class.
