Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Writing prompt: My cultural heritage influences my daily expectations, shaped by the norms of my culture. Similar to the "Girl", my expectations are my mother's expectations. Things like how to cook a certain way, not being able to talk to boys, how to sit when wearing a dress, and many more. Some things I don't agree with because sometimes I want to be myself, but I know that some of these norms my mother also had to follow when she was my age. I also realize that many people's norms are similar to and different from mine, which is why I have some expectations towards them and myself.

Summary: We read the script "Girl" and analyze it as a class.

Reflection: I learned that having expectations is both good and bad. Especially within your culture, expectations will be put on you, but it is up to you how you want to take those expectations.
