Blake uses the chimney sweepers to expose how society ignores suffering. Reflect on a time when you noticed someone being treated unfairly or saw a situation that didn’t seem right. How does this experience connect to the emotions or ideas expressed in one or both poems?

Prompt Response: One time when I was at school I saw a classmate being blamed for things he didn’t do.Most people just looked and laughed but to me it didn’t seem funny or fair. This reminds me of Blake’s “The chimney sweeper” from songs of innocence where the child accepts his life is hard because he has hope for later on.Both show how innocent people can be mistreated while other just ignore and look away.

Summary: Today in class we read two poem by William Blake and worked on a worksheet with our groups.

Reflection: The poem made me realize how important it is to notice the unfairness others go through and to care for others even if you don’t know them.
